Pearson's AIMSweb 1.0 Data Breach (posted 08/16/19)

Bedford School District
From the Office of the Superintendent
August 16, 2019

On July 22, 2019 the Bedford School District was notified that 304 students and 78 staff members’ accounts on Pearons’s AIMSweb 1.0 were compromised.  We know that this has impacted several NH school districts that utilize this online assessment tool.

In mid-March of 2019, Pearson became aware that an unauthorized third party gained access to a set of data related to the AIMSweb 1.0 platform.  Pearson immediately launched a review, which included outside cybersecurity experts, to determine the nature and extent of any data potentially affected.  According to Pearson, there is no evidence that the information was misused in any way.
The Bedford School District takes its obligation to safeguard personal information seriously.  This value is reflected in our Student Records Privacy Policy JRA. We are currently working with Pearson to make sure that there are additional protective measures in place prior to utilizing this service moving forward.  Two steps that have already taken place include the elimination of all data that was originally shared with Pearson as well as an initial review of their newly updated and more secure assessment software.
Those impacted by this incident were notified via an email letter from the Superintendent today.  Those who do not receive an email/letter were not impacted.
